Today we traveled to Gold Lane, St. George Basilica, St. Vitus Cathedral, and the Prague Castle. I loved looking at the beautiful gothic architecture of the church and the intricate stained glass windows. We also walked across Charles Bridge to the Old Town Square. We learned lots of really interesting facts about the Hussite Wars and how they affected the city and artifacts of Prague. For example, we learned that the statues on Charles Bridge that were a darker gray color were the older statues that had survived the war and the lighter gray or tan colored ones were new replicas because they had either been stolen during the war or hadn’t survived harsh weather. One cultural difference I noticed today was that people in Europe don’t like to put ice in their drinks! My family and friends will tell you that I am obsessed with ice and love to have a freezing cold drink. I am having ice withdrawals! I am excited to explore the castle we will see tomorrow and compare it to the one that we saw today.
