Amsterdam Layover by Alexis Fontaine

Today we arrived in Amsterdam very very early, but unfortunately we did not make it to Prague as planned. Our plane left without us! We had a twelve hour lay over in Amsterdam which turned out to be a successful and interesting day. There were many sights to see, the city was absolutely beautiful. We visited many places, and went on tours. We took one specific tour, a boat ride through some parts of the city and had a chance to learn about some of the many sites. After the tour, our group went to eat the most delicious fries in the Netherlands! They were truly tasty! At the end of the day we caught a flight to Prague and arrived here late at night. Once we arrived at the hotel, we raced to the showers! It was wonderful taking a shower and cleaning up. I can’t wait for tomorrow’s journey!
I learned today that no matter who you are, if you do not move quickly enough across the street, people will drive their car towards you! Especially taxi drivers.
My favorite part of today was being able to spend time in Amsterdam. It wasn’t planned, but I am thankful that we had the chance to walk along the streets of this beautiful city and visit an extra country! How lucky are we?!
The most surprising thing about Amsterdam is the methods of transportation that they use. The roads are very small as are the vehicles. People mostly used mopeds and bicycles to get around, as I noticed today.
A funny story from today: we were waiting for the train, and it arrived, however, it wasn’t the correct train. We realized this after we had already boarded. Mr. Tallman ran to us and yelled: “get off the train!” We all panicked and ran off the train, shoving each other out of the way. We all made it off before its departure, and we had a good laugh about it.
Today was excellent!
